NUCLEAR EXPERTS (NRC(NUCL))

Nuclear experts of NRC member nations hold consultations on a wide range of topics related to nuclear weapons issues, such as:

- nuclear weapon-related definitions and terminology including the publication of a joint glossary of this terminology;

- nuclear weapons safety and security; consultations on this topic include exchanges of information on the definition of safety and security provisions for nuclear weapons storage and transport;

- nuclear weapons doctrine and strategy.

The aim of these consultations is to exchange information, to strengthen mutual trust and transparency, as well as to enhance cooperation and common understanding of nuclear weapon issues among NRC member nations.

A series of field demonstrations on nuclear weapons safety and security has been conducted since 2004. These events contribute to the continued progress on exchanging information and enhancing transparency with regard to nuclear weapon safety and security amongst NRC member nations.

Based on a robust consultations work plan the NRC Nuclear Experts will conduct a number of events, including both a seminar on lessons learned from the nuclear weapons response field exercises, and another on nuclear doctrine and strategy.
